heroin addiction treatment

heroin addiction treatment

before i came here, i kind of put art asideto be a little crazy and do the things that i shouldn’t have been doing, really. andwhen i found out there was an art program, i got super stoked and went and bought a newart book with the intent of being able to build a new portfolio, with a new me— asober me. i think everyone has an inner artist, a lot of people will be like “i’m notan artist, i have no creative side”. yeah you do, and it’s a really good way to expressyourself without words. my focus is on therapy, so students come inand they have the tendency to say “oh, i’m not good at drawing, i’m not good at—“and i stress at them that this is not an art class, this is art therapy, purpose of whichis to identify feelings, talk about coping

skills, so it’s another way for them toexpress themselves. it’s actually really relieving, any timei get upset or have a craving, i tend to pick up a pencil and draw, whether it’s on myart book or on the back of a piece of paper. most of the time i come in prepared, witha topic of the day that we’ve got some individual artwork posted of, you know, different thingsthat we’ve done. like how they felt the first day walking into this building as comparedto how they feel today. and then there’s also— we’ve done a lot of team work building, which is— you’ll see the big art mural on the wall, where they’ve all had a littlesection of wall and they’ve had to come together and work as a team to complete it.

it’s ever changing, like, there’s alwayssomething new. i think it’s kind of cool to finally find me without a substance, andi would have never realized that unless i came here to bdr. and my mind has never beenso clear in my entire life, really. and i’m able to pick up a pencil and draw any timeof the day. i’d recommend bdr to anyone that’s trying to become sober.
